Medico-legal experience

I have 11 years experience with medico-legal work. I have attended the Academy of Experts Expert Witness Training course and the Bond Solon Excellence in Report Writing course. I undertake approximately 40 medico-legal reports per year. the breakdown of instructions is approximately equal claimant and defendant cases, and some single joint expert cases.

Appointments and turn-around times

I see medico-legal clients in central and west London locations. I am usually able to assess clients within 3 weeks, and turn-around time for a report is 2-3 weeks after the appointment.

Medico-legal overview reports

I accept instructions to provide medico-legal overview reports; these are prepared after reviewing the medical records, without seeing the client for an assessment.

Professional activities:

I am a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Hand Surgeon working in the NHS and in private practice in central and west London. I was appointed as Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Hand Surgeon at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London, in 2003. I was Lead Consultant for Plastic Surgery (head of department) at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital since 2007-2012. I am the visiting Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Hand Surgeon at West Middlesex University Hospital, Isleworth. My practice includes general plastic surgery, hand surgery and cosmetic surgery. My practice is mainly clinical and I undertake medico-legal work within my areas of expertise.

Publications:

I have published papers in national and international journals in the fields of plastic surgery, hand surgery and cosmetic surgery. I have also published educational articles on plastic surgery and hand surgery topics in General Practice journals. Full details are available on my general CV.

Teaching and research:

In my NHS practice I am involved in teaching Plastic Surgery trainees of all levels, and medical students, mostly from Imperial College, London. I am an invited lecturer at Imperial College Medical School. I provide formal teaching and lecturing to GPs and Accident and Emergency Departments in Central and West London. I am an invited faculty member at the Royal College of Surgeons of London 'Basic Skills in Hand Surgery' course, and also the Royal College of Surgeons of London 'Aesthetic and Reconstructive Skills' course.

I have a strong research background, including a period of research at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital / Shriner's Burns Unit (Boston, USA) in 1994-5. I am involved in various research projects in plastic surgery, hand surgery and cosmetic surgery. Full details are available on my general CV.

My medico-legal work includes personal injury and medical negligence cases. I do approximately 40 medico-legal reports per year. I am usually able to accommodate urgent cases, and return a report within 1-2 weeks of seeing the client. I can also provide 'overview' medico-legal reports. I find that I have roughly equal plaintiff / defendant case mix, and some single joint expert cases.

Medico-legal training

I have done the Academy of Experts 'Expert Witness Training' course (2003), and am a member of the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. I attended the Bond Solon Excellence in Report Writing course in 2014.
